Adrienne Kress is a writer and actress born and raised in Toronto, Canada. It was only natural that Adrienne, the daughter of two high school English teachers, should fall in love with both creating and performing the written word.<\/p>\n

She majored in Drama at the age of 11 at the Claude Watson School for the Arts, and continued to follow this path through post-secondary school, graduating summa cum laude from the University of Toronto with an honours BA in theatre. She then moved to London England to study at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts and stayed for three years, acting in a variety of productions. Upon her return to Canada, she joined the Tempest Theatre Group, a Shakespearean theatre company, and continued to produce and direct her own work.<\/p>\n

Running parallel to her passion for acting was always her passion for writing. In high school, she won the Gordon C Johnson award for her work, and in university she studied with top Canadian playwright Djanet Sears. The play she wrote as a result of that experience, A Weekend in the Country<\/em>, was performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2004 and in Toronto at the Summerworks Theatre Festival in 2007, to excellent reviews and sold out houses.<\/p>\n

Inspired by a trip to the town of Bath, Adrienne wrote\u00a0Alex and the Ironic Gentleman<\/em>\u00a0while living in London, England.\u00a0 Although her first book,\u00a0Alex,<\/em>\u00a0was snapped up almost immediately by publishers around the world \u2013 UK\/Commonwealth, USA, Italy, Romania, France, Greece, Belgium, Indonesia and Germany \u2013 where the translated version of her title reads as\u00a0Die hals\u00fcberkopfundkragendramatischabenteuerliche Katastrophenexpedition der Alex Morningside<\/em>.\u00a0 Seriously. It was also featured in the New York Post as a “Post Potter Pick,” as well as on the CBS Early Show, and won the Heart of Hawick Children’s Book Award in the UK and was nominated for the Red Cedar in Canada.<\/p>\n

The sequel to the book,\u00a0Timothy and the Dragon’s Gate<\/em>, has also been picked up by publishers around the world and was released \u00a0in the United States, Canada and the UK and Commonwealth in early 2009. It was nominated for the Audie (USA) and the Manitoba Young Readers Choice Award (Canada). It was also recently optioned for film.<\/p>\n

She has also released two YA novels: the quirky paranormal romance Outcast<\/em> (Diversion Books) and the Steampunk adventure\u00a0The Friday Society<\/em>\u00a0(Penguin), released to a\u00a0<\/a>starred review from Quill and Quire\u00a0and optioned for film.<\/p>\n

April 2016 saw the release of\u00a0Hatter Madigan: Ghost in the H.A.T.B.O.X.<\/em>, an exciting collaboration with NY Times bestselling author Frank Beddor (set in the same world as his Looking Glass Wars <\/em>YA books).<\/p>\n

In 2017 she\u00a0released the first book in her new Middle Grade series:\u00a0The Explorers: The Door in the Alley<\/em>\u00a0(Delacorte, Random House). The sequel, The Explorers: The Reckless Rescue<\/em>\u00a0came out spring\u00a02018, and the final book in the trilogy, The Explorers: The Quest for the Kid<\/em> came out summer of 2019.<\/p>\n

Her YA novels based on the Bendy and the Ink Machine<\/em> video game<\/a><\/span>, (Dreams Come to Life, The Illusion of Living and The Lost Ones<\/em>) were Adrienne’s first foray into writing horror, but as an actor she has had the pleasure of being creepy in such horror films as Devil’s Mile<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0Wolves<\/i>. And she took great pleasure in getting to haunt teenagers in SyFy’s\u00a0Neverknock<\/i>.<\/p>\n

Her first graphic novel Ghost Circus<\/em><\/a><\/span>, illustrated by the amazing Jade Zhang<\/a><\/span>, comes out in 2025.<\/p>\n

Adrienne is presently living in Toronto with her husband Scott and cat Atticus, where she is continuing her writing, acting and directing careers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
